Barcelona defenderGerard Pique has been summoned to court in the Catalan capital on Thursday to face charges of disrespecting police officers following an incident in October.
Pique responded angrily when his brother was fined for a parking violation in Barcelona, allegedly scrunching up the paper and throwing it on to the floor in front of the officers present at the scene.
The Spain centre-back is also alleged to have threatened the Guardia Urbana officials by claiming he would speak to their boss and also responded with a string of insults.
The 28-year-old later apologised publicly on social media as he tweeted: "I'm very sorry. I have made a mistake and it won't happen again."
The incident was one of several that upset Barca boss Luis Enrique and saw the centre-back left out of the side for three consecutive matches last November.
Pique is not obliged to attend the court date himself and is likely to send a representative in his place on Thursday, but the defender could face a fine of up to €300 to be paid on a daily basis for a period ranging between 10 and 60 days.
