Formula 1: Fernando Alonso remains in hospital overnight following crash during testing

According to McLaren, Alonso was 'conscious' upon his arrival at the medical centre and able to talk to doctors before being airlifted to hospital.

Although Alonso was given the all-clear after scans, McLaren confirmed their driver would stay in hospital on Sunday night for 'observation' after being concussed during the impact of the crash.
"We have the result of the CT scan and Alonso is uninjured and fine," a spokesperson for McLaren confirmed several hours later.
The accident happened shortly before Sunday's scheduled lunch break. Observers described the McLaren, which was travelling relatively slowly at the time of the crash, as suddenly spearing across the circuit before banging into the trackside wall.
"The speed was slow - maybe 150kph," Sebastian Vettel, who has replaced Alonso at Ferrari for the 2015 season, said. "Then he turned right into the wall. It looked strange."
Suggestions that Alonso may have suffered an electric shock while at the wheel of the MP4-30 have been discounted while McLaren have dismissed claims that their driver fainted.
"Fernando’s accident was just one of those things that happens in testing," said team boss Boullier. "Fortunately, he’s fine, but was concussed during the accident, which therefore required an overnight stay in hospital as a precaution. That’s normal practice after a concussion.
"Inevitably, some media reports have sought to exaggerate the severity of the incident – it was just a normal testing accident."
