Roma warned Manchester United that midfielder Kevin Strootman is not for sale

Roma have warned Manchester United and other potential suitors that central midfielder Kevin Strootman is not for sale. The Dutchman has been subject to increased reported interest from Louis van Gaal's men following the Red Devils' stuttering start to the season which continued with Sunday's 5-3 defeat to newly promoted Leicester.

Strootman has not played for the Stadio Olimpico side yet this season as he continues to recover from a cruciate ligament injury which kept him sidelined for the tail end of 2013-14 and forced him to miss the World Cup.

Despite rumours that Roma would part with Strootman for €75m, club chief Mauro Baldissoni dismissed the notion he would be offloaded in January.

"We can’t wait to see Strootman back on the field, because we really miss him and that moment is getting closer," the Giallorossi's general director told Sky Sport.
"We are proud to have Strootman in our squad and he is not for sale."

Roma have started the season in perfect fashion - they top the table with three wins in as many games and thrashed CSKA Moscow 5-1 in their midweek Champions League group stage opener.

Contrastingly, Van Gaal's Manchester United are just two points off the bottom of the Premier League table after five games and were dumped out of the Capital One Cup by third-tier club MK Dons.
