The future of Galatasaray coach Cesare Prandelli shrouded in doubt on Thursday with the club’s board due to meet to discuss his position.
Gala were eliminated from European competition on Wednesday following a 2-0 Champions League defeat at Anderlecht – a result which came just three days after a dismal 3-0 Super Lig loss at home to Trabzonspor.
A source close to the former Italy manager told Goal a delegation from the club’s board will meet chairman Duygun Yarsuvat today to talk over the situation.
A club spokesman added: "The official decision is not taken yet. We only had a de facto vote and the yesses in favour of his sacking were more than the nos. We’ll hold an official meeting urgently and take a decision."
The main stumbling block for Gala is how they raise the funds to pay the remaining 18 months on Prandelli’s contract - worth about €3million. The president who hired the 57-year-old, Unal Aysal, did not stand for re-election and was replaced by Duygun Yarsuvat and a new board last month.
On Tuesday, Prandelli released a statement in which he complained that promises made to him when he took the job in the summer had been broken. This included a host of transfer targets such as Alexandre Pato, Joel Campbell and Alex Song, each of whom the Turkish side failed to sign.
The former Fiorentina boss took over from Roberto Mancini in the summer after presiding over a disappointing World Cup for Italy.
His stint in Turkey has been difficult from the off, however, with reports of dressing room discord adding to his woes.
However, one senior player has shown his support for the coach, with Wesley Sneijder insisting he had no issue with Prandelli.
"I do not have any problems with Prandelli and neither does anyone else," Sneijder told Zoomin.
"I have started nearly every game this season, missing just two games. We will have played 30 games come January, so it's only logical that you don't play every now and then.
"People always try to create problems when the results are not as expected. We did a great job last season, but have been unable to replicate that form so far this season."
